Building my First PC

kwilli54

Hello All,

Just wanted some thoughts before December when I build my Gaming PC, what tools I need, and any suggestions you might have for parts and such. Here is my load out that I am planning to purchase for the winter. I plan to use this computer for some minor video editing, running some of the newest games(Battlefield1), Photoshop, and creating websites. I would say that I am kind of on a budget, my max is about $1200, and this build puts me at about $1038 which is great! Also, I would love to hear thoughts on the GTX 1050 that's coming out on Tuesday!

CPU: Intel Core i5 Processor 6600k 3.5 GHz

CPU Cooler: CRYORIG C7 40.5

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170M-D3HMicro ATX LGA1151

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB DDR4-2666 Memory

Storage: A- Data Premier SP550 120 GB 2.5" SSD

WD Blue 1TB 3.5" 5400 RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: MSI Geforce GTX 1060 6GB Gaming X

Case: Inwin 303 White

Power Supply: Corsair CXM 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

THANK YOU

I have heard a good amount about the Static wrists, but are they really necessary? I know you can zap your parts and have them break before you use them, but is there a high chance of that happening?

[WHAT HE SAID]

I'm going to steal this suggestion from Linus, buy a magnetic screwdriver set.

Yes, it's 2871 as in the year 2871. I traveled all this way, back in time, just to help you. And you thought your mama lied when she said you were special-_-

I'd get a higher capacity SSD, of better quality, and if you're putting games on the HDD get a 7200 rpm one, not the 5400.

I don't think antistatic bracelets are worth it, I have never had one nor am I planning on getting one.

Static shocks are a thing, but if you take the right precautions you are not going to break anything.

I just stand on a metal plate from Home Depot. /s

As long as you keep yourself grounded by touching the case or a piece of metal you'll be fine.

Storage: SK hynix SL308 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($64.99 @ SuperBiiz)

^You're gonna run out of space real quick with just a 120GB

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($49.49 @ OutletPC)

^There are several versions of Western Digital 1TB Blue drives, be sure to get the WD10EZEX model. That's the 7200 RPM.

Ok so just to make sure I get it right,  before you touch any parts you have to touch the case to get rid of the static correct.

I have just updated my parts list, the only thing is the motherboard it only has 4 usb slots. Is the front IO separate from the back IO in terms of connection to the board? Becuase that would mean a total of 8 usb ports because there are 4 slots on the front of the case, and 4 on the back.

Also any thoughts on the New nvidia graphics cards? Is the GTX 1060 good for this build? or should I take a look at the 1050 that comes out tomorrow?

One way to ground yourself is by touching a power supply that's plugged in but is turned off - the switch at the back should be at 0.

Any case fan recommendations? I think I can fit 5 or 6 in my case.

That's the thing with your case ain't it? It doesn't come with any fans. xD

It can support up to 7 - 3 bottom, 3 top, 1 rear. Note: With an ATX motherboard, you can't fill the 2 fan slots at the bottom.

I'd suggest you take do what PCPP user:bobbyw87 did. He got this 5 pack white Arctic airflow fans and placed 3 on top, 1 on the rear and 1 on the bottom right.

Case Fan: ARCTIC F12 PWM PST - Value Pack 74.0 CFM  120mm Fans  ($24.35 @ Newegg)

Fan Hub: Phanteks PH-PWHUB_01 PWM Fan Hub  ($20.98 @ Newegg)

^Connect the Arctic fans here. The Cryorig CPU cooler fan should be connect directly to the mobo.

Was lucky enough to find some guy with an almost identical setup.

Bottom-right of the board should have pins. Refer to the manual for this.
