how do you measure dba?

A decibel meter, but really it doesn't matter. As long as it's not painfully loud, it will be fine. Just keep the volume at a confortable level.

It depends on how loud the speaker/headset can produce. Some play louder some play quiter. It's hard but there are devices that can measure that. I am not sure about software because it can not possibly know how loud your Nokia headset can blow.

so if it does not hurt your ears your fine?

Ehhh, generally speaking yes. 85 dba is like the sound of a passing desiel tuck going like 60mph (or something like that). You can just google examples of sounds that are like 85Dba.

Basically, your ears are really good at knowing when they'rein danger (though they'll sometimes overcompensate or might stop hurting if you desensitize them to loud noise)

so if you listen to something loud your ears can stop hurting at the volume for ever?

Pain is a signal to tell you to stop doing what you're doing. If you keep listening to loud stuff for extended periods of time eventually your pain threshold will increase as your brain realizes you're going to do it anyways. Oversimplified but there ya go

Threshold of pain (loudest before we are in physical pain) is 120db, which you'll know when you hear it. But if you listen too loud for an extended period of time, then the receptors in your ear begin to "die". So you're hearing less and less  per frequency per db.

Not as simple as the above example, but simpler than using all the jargon.

Well, the "threshold of pain" is concerned chiefly with raw dBs, if you listen to something not quite as loud but for long enough periods of time your ears can still start to hurt

Of course, which is why I posted the chart that showed how long those periods were.
