I found this video on youtube it seems to work, but it can be finicky and nvidia card tend to be unfriendly with AMD cards

I wouldn't really recommend a dedicated PhysX card, but since you have one coming, be sure to post the performance! Im very curious to see the results.

I have a 560ti and am upgrading, so I asked Nvidia about this and they said it would work just fine. The only thing I would say is with current games, you really don't need to buy a new card just for physx. I was able to run borderlands 2 (one of the few that's actually using nvidia physx currently) at max physx and max graphics with decent framerate at 1080p. My advice is, if you have an old card and are upgrading and don't feel like selling it for some extra cash, throw it on your rig as a dedicated card (just make sure cooling is adequate, as if it's too close, the top card will be hotter, just like in SLI)

This guy is talking about hybrid PhysX which is where you use and AMD card for graphics and you use an nvidia card for PhysX. The problem with that however is that if the nvidia card detects the AMD card it effectively locks up and becomes useless. So you are having to used hacked drivers to make them work together.

omglazrbms, one thing that could arise from that is if you are using a older card it might not be able to do the PhysX calculations fast enough and cause the game to run slower.

550ti should be enough, the guy in the first vid was using a 9800, I got a 680 coming so i can try it with that if need be.

550ti should be more than enough depending on what AMD card you are using.

What motherboard are you using? :D 7870's SLI a dedicated PhysX card and upgrading to GTX 680 why? Just get 2 GTX 660's and SLI them. Newegg had a benchmark about this - 2 GTX 660's are better than a single GTX 680. http://youtu.be/Iy5478lBais

thats true, but im just wanting a single card now, better temps. been getting the top card to 75/80*c because they're sandwitched together.

id like to have a 680 just for that, i only have a 240 rad though, it'd work but i wouldnt try overclocking.

What case have you got because it may be worth the money to invest in a case that has water cooling options available so that you could build the ultimate Hybrid PhysX rig.

After looking into Hybrid PhysX it would certainly something that I would be interested in doing when I have the money.

Is physX really that important in games? I thought it was just an "extra".

ya,its more of a bling factor, cpu's can run physx

why would you though? rather than putting up with terrible support and drivers, its just so much easier to SLI 680's or 690's if you have the money for it. the time and hassle you will save by doing this is well worth the 5-15 frames less you will be getting (your FPS will still be well above any monitor's refresh rate). that said, there are a few ways to do it. i just would not, as it has trouble written all over it.

ive been planing on going to a 680 for awhile, i got the 550ti to hold me over until i get it, i was going to sell the 7870s before i got the 680. the 550 was cheap, so no big deal. its not gonna be perminent i just wanted to try it out. i found a 680 for a good price so i got that not before i sold the other cards.

A 680 is gonna be CRAZY overkill for PhysX!

The 680 might not beat a pair of 7870s depending on what what 7870s they are and what 680 you are getting.

If you are really interested in PhysX you should have no problem running it on the 680 as well as the game but due to the having that do the game rendering and the physics calculations there may be a small drop in fps.

im getting the 680 because temps ar getting high on my top card (80*c) hybid physx is just something i wanna try before i get rid of my 7870s
