I have a 560ti and am upgrading, so I asked Nvidia about this and they said it would work just fine. The only thing I would say is with current games, you really don't need to buy a new card just for physx. I was able to run borderlands 2 (one of the few that's actually using nvidia physx currently) at max physx and max graphics with decent framerate at 1080p. My advice is, if you have an old card and are upgrading and don't feel like selling it for some extra cash, throw it on your rig as a dedicated card (just make sure cooling is adequate, as if it's too close, the top card will be hotter, just like in SLI)

This guy is talking about hybrid PhysX which is where you use and AMD card for graphics and you use an nvidia card for PhysX. The problem with that however is that if the nvidia card detects the AMD card it effectively locks up and becomes useless. So you are having to used hacked drivers to make them work together.

omglazrbms, one thing that could arise from that is if you are using a older card it might not be able to do the PhysX calculations fast enough and cause the game to run slower.

What case have you got because it may be worth the money to invest in a case that has water cooling options available so that you could build the ultimate Hybrid PhysX rig.

After looking into Hybrid PhysX it would certainly something that I would be interested in doing when I have the money.

Is physX really that important in games? I thought it was just an "extra".

Getting a dedicated card just seems kinda OTT.

why would you though? rather than putting up with terrible support and drivers, its just so much easier to SLI 680's or 690's if you have the money for it. the time and hassle you will save by doing this is well worth the 5-15 frames less you will be getting (your FPS will still be well above any monitor's refresh rate). that said, there are a few ways to do it. i just would not, as it has trouble written all over it.

ive been planing on going to a 680 for awhile, i got the 550ti to hold me over until i get it, i was going to sell the 7870s before i got the 680. the 550 was cheap, so no big deal. its not gonna be perminent i just wanted to try it out. i found a 680 for a good price so i got that not before i sold the other cards.

The 680 might not beat a pair of 7870s depending on what what 7870s they are and what 680 you are getting.

If you are really interested in PhysX you should have no problem running it on the 680 as well as the game but due to the having that do the game rendering and the physics calculations there may be a small drop in fps.
