So I'm in a bit of a bind in my personal life and as any sensible person would, I immediately started parting out my computer fir cash. But I'm wondering if for internet, YouTube, emails, Facebook, and other basic computer things, an actual computer like a desktop or laptop has an advantage over a tablet. I need something more powerful than a cellphone but I don't know if that means a full computer is necessary.

I don't have the tablet yet. I'm just wondering if there's any major limits to what a tablet can do that would make it worthwhile to not sell the desktop. I don't expect it to game, and I'd be looking at tablets in the $150 range or less if I bought one.

most tablets or even chromebooks use the same chip as your phone. So you definitely do not want to sell your desktop for a tablet. Instead consider a chromebook that doesnt uses an intel CPU or even a laptop with i3 at least. Some tablets do use i3 CPUs.

Assuming I get my asking prices, parting it out should get me $440. The idea here is to have more cash to spend on personal expenses so I can only allocate a small amount of what I make from this sale towards a replacement device.

I'm not sure of your exact situation but I think I could give you an idea... I have an Ipad mini, with a case made by patriot that has a built in detachable Bluetooth keyboard. I use it for a lot of stuff including everything you just said. I found myself using it more now that you can get Microsoft office programs, so doing basic work on ms word or typing up documents for school or whatever won't alienate you because the interface is nearly the exact same as if you were on a windows computer. Since you aren't planning on gaming i'd go with the ipad specifically because the ipad is one of apples least malfunctioning products and it's super portable. it's ridiculously practical because you can take it with you wherever you go and take it out whenever... if storage is a concern apple comes with cloud storage and there is tons of free cloud storages out there. If that runs full you can just send everything to your own email, and forward into storage from there...
