I'm interested in installing my GPU with a riser card to change up the aesthetics of my build. I have a Corsair 400c case with nothing else installed in the PCIe slots on the motherboard. I'm just wondering how exactly this would work in a case like this. Won't the output cables in the back be inaccessible because it won't match up with the slot covers? Also, how does this not cause the card to fall down under the weight of the heatpipes etc.? Anyone have experience doing this who could provide me with some explanation of how this works?

You won't be able to use a riser card in that case unless you're up to basically making a whole new back panel for it because you're right about the GPU not lining up with the original slot.  I've used riser cards and cables in a few custom cases and you still need to design a mount for the card because they're not meant to hold the weight of the card.
