Hey everyone,

I currently have a Buffalo CloudStor 2‑Bay NAS Server ‑ SATA 3Gb/s ‑ 1 TB. I've had this plugged into my router which I am usually able to access on my home network from most devices. I was also using Pogoplug to access this through the app and online. Pogoplug recently closed their cloud, and when this happened, I can't seem to access my NAS from anywhere but on Pogoplug.com.

I am self employed and I work from several different laptops and desktops. My main goal is to just be able to save and access my docs (PDF, excel, word, images) at any time from any device.

Can anyone help me figure this out? Is there a way to do this without using pogoplug? Is there another way of configuring this?

Thanks!

I have more than 800GB of storage on the NAS. I don't think that will work.

Why not? The data is stored locally on your NAS, you should be able to use any service you want to be able to access it (assuming OwnCloud is supported on that NAS).

I'm not too familiar with how this works. So I can sign up with another cloud service and it will be able to access my drive? Or do I have to transfer all of my data from the drive to the cloud?

The data is all stored on your NAS, the cloud service just accesses the data that's stored locally on your NAS....unless you're not actually using your NAS and instead you're paying for >800gb of cloud storage.

Oh, I totally misunderstood. I thought this was an application you installed on your NAS and configured yourself and could retrieve your data from the outside. My bad.

I guess the first issue I need to solve is the fact that I can no longer access my NAS of the home network. It doesn't even display within the Network tab in File Explorer. I ran the Nas Navigator wizard and it does locate the NAS, but when I select it, it just gives me a permissions error. That said, when I go to pogoplug.com, it does find it there. Doesn't make any sense to me...

I've determined that the issue here has nothing to do with the cloud. The current issue is that my network can not locate my NAS via wifi. If I plug a computer directly into the router, I am then able to connect to my NAS. Is there a way to fix the settings of the NAS to allow other devices on the network to access the NAS via wifi?

Does your WIFI use a different subnet than your wired network by chance? It's rare but I've seen it a few times in the wild. What is the make and model of your router and can you provide a basic outline of your network topology so I can see if there are any switches or anything else in between the devices? Basically I just want to know what devices you are using and how they are all connected.

Hello :)

What router are you using? Do you have a switch between your router and your NAS? If you have the NAS plugged directly to the NAS via a network cable you should be able to see the IP of the NAS once you enter the router's settings and then access it from another device that's on the same network (router's network) via simply entering the IP of the NAS. This should bring up the dashboard of the NAS.

Contacting the manufacturer is always a good idea!

Thanks for coming back and sharing! I'm glad to see it was something as simple as changing the network settings.

I hope other people with this issue check this out and find it helpful.
