Hi

i have all my upgrades now and I will be building soon so I was wondering how I get another windows key.

i firstly installed 8.1 on my pc and used the key with it, I then got the free upgrade to Windows 10 but my hdd broke so I could not uninstall.

can I just use the 8.1 key with a windows 10 USB drive or do I have to email Microsoft about it, if so where do I ask?

A side note is that I have no idea how to install the os with partitions and installs as last time my pc was a surprise so any help would be appreciated

thanks again

pro

If you are reinstalling Win10 to same PC with no hardware changes you do not need to enter a product key, skip it when it asks.

Do you have your old product key? You should just be able to enter the old key and it will work. I'm not entirely clear on what your issue is, so call Microsoft if you have any questions.

On oem keys allow for 3 activations(I think). Even if it is out of activations, when you type it in, it will give you an error message with a link to contact Microsoft. Do this, then explain that you upgraded hardware. They will then make the key activatabke.

It's been activated but you can still use it on the same motherboard (though I think they removed that stipulation).

The thing is I am going to be installing windows 10 with an 8.1 key if that works?

You can look up "cnet" and "windows 10". It's still free and if you run into any issues, contact Microsoft via e-mail.

I would install windows 10 then, click the skip option when prompted for the key, then contacting Microsoft and supply them with your win8 key. They should be able to activate your windows.

When you boot into inactivated windows, and then going into he activation setttings, there should be a link to contact Microsoft. Use this link as I think it automatically opens a ticket.
