I had a number of problems with my old Loop.  So much so that I actually pulled everything apart and ran my system on Air for a while.   It ran well and I had no problems.  But as we all know, water cooling isn't about pure performance or perfection.  It is about the challenge and building something....

So with that in mind I finally decided to rebuild my loop.

I tore down and and cleaned every block.  Have a new Pump and top, and decided to assemble the loop with soft tubing before I broke out the PETG.

So here is what the current loop looks like.

20161021_002030.jpg

6700K and 2x 980Ti

Both Radiators are EK PE series.  The top is a 360 and the front is a 280.

Pump is an EK D5 Revo.

I currently have it set to intake through the top 360 and exhaust out through the front 280.  I did this to give slight positive pressure, which has given me slightly improved temps.

So far so good as far as I can tell.

However I am still a bit concerned about CPU Temps.

This is what I get after about 46 minutes of gaming load in FF14.

20161021_001414.jpg

The CPU load usually hovers around this point yet my temps are still hitting mid to high 60s with a Max of 85.  If I pop off the front cover of the case I get a 3-5c drop in overall temps.

There interesting thing to me is this however.   While my GPU temps stay fairly consistent my CPU temps fluctuate drastically.

This shows a 1 hour snapshot of temps.  As you can see the GUPU temps remain very consistent even with a load spike.   However the CPU temps spike quickly with usage.

Cam snap.JPG

For some final info.   I checked the temp at various parts of the loop.

Water in the Res is 51C

The front and top Rad hovered around 50C and the exterior temp of the tubes was about 48C.  This tells me the loop had reached a pretty stable point.  However at a higher temp than I would have liked.

So...  Any advice?  Am I just being paranoid?  Should I look at some fixes?  New case?  Better Rads?  Should I give up on Watercooling?

Thanks all.

the CPU will always be under a changing load in games and your temps reflect this. Nothing to be worried about there. As for the temps, they definitely seem a little high, I would have expected something in the mid 50's, low 60's max. what load was your CPU on when it hit 85? was it a bench mark or purely gaming?

The 85c was while gaming.  I am not sure the load when it hit 85 however I was able to capture this which shows the temp at 80c while the load is at 47%

Edit.  Not going to bother posting another photo but I did find 84C with 45% CPU load.

Maybe it is because the hot water from the GPUs is going into your CPU block. if the water going into your CPU block is very hot, your CPU cooling will be much worse. try running a CPU benchmark with both your GPUs at idle, and then run the same benchmark with your GPUs running something like furmark to really stress them out.

Good idea.

I ran Geekbench by itself.  Max tamp was 77.5!   When I ran it with Furmark going I got 83.5.

Starting to think I need a new CPU Block.   But since mine is in good shape I don't see what that could do.

Hm... But still with everything at 100% your temps were less than 85 on your CPU.. Strange.

but sometimes, you live with the imperfect. unless it gets to more than 85, I would just dismiss it as a fluke or something. 85, although a bit high, is a perfectly safe temperature for your CPU at load. unless you want to hand the CPU down to your grandkids as a family heirloom, it's fine.

I am starting to think I need to get a Case that lets me run about double my current Rad space.  But damn I love the looks of this case.

Been thinking about this all night.

I think I am going ot move my secondary computer/hackintosh over to this case and get an SMA8 to run dual loops..

Yes the case is a Phanteks Evolv ATX

Such a good looking case,  shame it's in size,  with a couple improvements it would make a killer case

Well for one, I'd swap fans.

My setup is almost the same, only older.

4790k 2 Titan blacks. Ek 360 and 280. Even have the 2k novtua's. I think my 280 has a lower fin density. I had to swap the fans on my 360 with the sp fans. Better temps at lower speeds and quieter.

Judging from the temps I assume the fans are spinning quite slowly. The highest my water would reach is 40c. 55c max for CPU and 45/40c on the gpu's.

Heres an old pic before i swapped mobo's and put the gpu's back in series. Fitting temps at one point myself.

The fans are in the 1200 rpm range at max. Any higher and they are too loud.  I tried taking the top and front panel off today.  Huge drop in Temps.  Guess it is back to air cooling in this case.  Off to Microbe terms to find a new case.

Maybe I will try out the DG87.

That's seems like the issue. Those fans can't get any air through that high density. I removed the 360 from the front. I will never have a rad feeding another rad, don't like the temps.

Grab an air 740!!
