I currently have a Gigabyte G1 GTX 1060 and a processor that can't match it at all.

I have the FX-6300 on a TA970 MOBO

I'd like to upgrade to the i5 6600k, but don't want to buy ddr4 ram and a new mobo.

Is there a cpu that would be good on the same motherboard? A newer amd cpu that would not be bottlenecked by the 1060?

Thanks

Here's a list of cpus that would fit on your am3+ board.  I would maybe save up for newer hardware in the mobo/ram department if you can wait as the am3+ is becoming outdated

If you want that performance you have to go Intel. Sorry mon. Imo it's not worth it to check out current AMD CPU's if you want that level of performance. So go Intel now or wait until Kaby/Zen is released. But all requires a new board and RAM.

Other then that OC your CPU.

Yeah the current AMD performance kind of caps out before you hit that i5 6600k. Doesn't mean you cant have a great experience with their chips, but AMD has always been meant for mid range budget builds.
