I've been tasked with building a pc by my brother, and I wonder if this is a good build?

Any particular reason for picking the smallish HTPC case?

I'd also consider a cheaper HDD; the higher speed or the Black isn't necessarily very useful when you already have a SSD.

Also I'd lean towards the 6500 (tiny speed difference, larger price difference).

Actually the case you selected doesn't support 3,5" drives.

This is also why I'm personally not a fan of the small form factors (unless there's a good reason for it). There are always ifs and buts, it restricts you a lot in component choice, and generally you're always making sacrifices somewher (airflow, thermals, expandability, etc)

Better CPU and mobo, can overclock too if you want... took out the windows licence, get a $20 code from kingwin or wherever.

If he wanted a case with a purple dildo on the top, would you use that?

The fact that he picked it doesn't mean it's the best choice.

FWIW I don't think it makes much sense to go with a 6600k with this case / cooler. I doubt you'd get anywhere OCing.

I did not put the 6600K in the build and the node 202 case is a really nice case which I have myself have considered useing for a LAN rig

The 6600k was in response to paddy-stone's suggestion.

It's your choice but if there isn't some kind of special reason to go with the small form factor, personally I'd always go for a normal ATX case... something like the Fractal Design Define S or R5.

This way you keep all your options open, you can put in normal 3,5" drives, you have room for expansion, you can put in an ATX board, use full-size CPU coolers, use every PSU you want, have decent airflow, and it actually comes with fans so on the bottom line even just the case is cheaper. And you still have the option to do anything you want with any watercooling further down the line.

It's also much less of a pain in the ass to build in, and has dust filters that are accessible without opening up the entire thing.

Honestly I don't get the whole... tiny case thing. It might be nice for a media center thing you put next to your PC, or for people who care more about looks than practicality (the Mac users in disguise). But there really aren't any benefits to it.

I don't really take notice of people's case preferences to be honest... they like what they like. My build suggestions only relate to the actual computer hardware. In my experience trying to get someone to change their minds or even see your point of view when it comes to cases/peripherals never goes well.... it's their money and builds just let them get on with it as you won't be thanked for your input generally. That's why I personally tend to stick with giving recomendations on the actual internal hardware of the computer... everything else is blah anyway :)

Did you consider going with a 1TB ssd?  Crucial MX300 1.1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive

I believe low profile fans are optimal if a gpu is installed. Not sure how much extra cooling fans will provide given that a gpu will be in the way.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I had not realized you were in Norway when I posed the question. Pricing is very different, but the difference between the OP storage solution and a single ssd is roughly 1,141 excluding VAT (mpx.no). Significant, but worthy of consideration given the benefits: faster, quieter, cooler. (Of course I have no idea how much VAT adds to that cost.)

If you're willing to put up with a non-modular PSU, you can save a little bit by going with the model that comes with a 450 W 80+ Bronze PSU. It'll save you about $30-$50, though yes, it'll may require a bit more work to build in with all of the cables already attached to the PSU. Unlike many cases that come with PSUs, this one isn't bad.

The 6600K is around $10-$20 more, and since you're using an aftermarket cooler anyway, I'd definitely consider it. While you won't be able to overclock it with a B150 board (you probably shouldn't anyway at this form factor and with only 450 W), you'll get a nice 200 MHz boost over a 6600, giving you better value. Decide on this based on how much it costs in your region and your budget, of course.
