So, I turned my USB device into a boot drive for windows 10 when I install my new SSD.

However, I left a word document files with hours worth of college work on it, on the USB. (Stupid I know)

Has the file been permanently deleted as I can't find it anywhere on the USB?

Sorry to hear that your hard work is gone.

Take BACKUPS!

If you have not reinstalled Windows on the PC you made it on, Microsoft Office Word periodically auto-saves, and sometimes there will be a version of the document saved locally on the PC, because it thinks you have not saved it. It probably wouldn't be the most up to date version though.

No luck using that method, was it possible that it wasn't deleted and just hidden somewhere?

Could be quite likely the Windows 10 data overwrote it so much that it is not recoverable unless you went to a specialist, in which case it would be quite expensive.
