Hello awesome community :D

I was thinking how i could use my old lenovo G580 to its fullest potential. Its "special build" with an i7 3632QM 2.2 Ghz. and a shitty geforce 710m with 1 gb of dedicated ram. Also "decent" 8 gb of ram and a bunch of dust. I opened it once and tried to clean it but i couldent really get alot done.

I dont really know what i could do, but if any of you guys know a quick little mod to boost performance and make it last a little longer it would be greatly appreciated :D

I mostly use it for school work and some games now and then.

Well unless you're @iamdarkyoshi, you probably won't be doing too many mods to get more performance. Before you do anything, check your temperatures. If you're hitting 90c or more under load, then some things wrong with your cooling system. If not, then it's probably just time to upgrade.

Hardware wise there is only one thing you can do and that is to install an SSD maybe overclock the GPU.

Your laptop essentially has the same specs as what I am using right now, which should be fine fine for schoolwork and general usage(unless you don't have a SSD, then get a SSD), but gaming is well, yeah. Make sure your temperatures are fine(less than 95c. If they aren't, take apart your laptop and clean it), but if they are fine then there isn't much you can do. If your laptops GPU is on a MXM card, then you could theoretically upgrade it(there aren't that many options, maybe you could find a 144 core gf 635 or something). If you already have a SSD, your temps are fine, and you cant upgrade your GPU, then its time to get a new laptop or desktop.

It's a 710, fam. He's not going to get that much out of it.

I have a 7770 I got 100 MHZ with only +20% on the power limit.

you can overclock an athlon 64, but it'll always be an athlon 64. a GT710 is a horrible chip, and the heatsink solutions they use for them in laptops are often even more hilareous. (mine quite literally has a plate over the gpu that is stuck to the CPU's heatpipes and kinda.. just is there xD)

most laptops are like that, never really made sense to me running a heat pipe from a chip to chip.

because the GT710 pretty much makes no difference in terms of heat output for the laptop :P

Thanks so much for all the very fast responses, im usually hitting 80 degress celcius under load, (running without the battery plugged in, after a clean, on a cooling pad with fans) so i guess ill just have to safe up for a prober PC :D

So far this is what i found most attractive :D
