So... This friend I have thought it would be a good idea to touch his motherboard with a small peace of metal while the pc was still running... As expected the pc won't turn on anymore. Did he short everything out? Or is there a chance that he can still save his baby?

Thanks in advance.

I think he will need to replace his mobo but his gpu, ram, and cpu should be ok (I think).

Pull the MB battery and main power first and hold the power button for like a minute. Put the battery back and try to reboot. If that doesn't work it's probably dead.

Depends on what he shorted, best case scenario he merely destroyed the moba or a spcific part of the board like a dimm slot/ or something that requires a cmos reset, worst case scenario he destroyed everything

That could have killed everything, but maybe not.

Most likely he just killed the motherboard and nothing else. Sometimes when a motherboard goes, it might take other parts with it, such as a CPU, GPU, etc. I would try the parts on a donor motherboard or have him buy a new motherboard and figure out what else went down with it.
