MSI GS72VR 6RF GPU Drivers

Go to solution Solved by Silver47,

It might actually not work as intended. Like it said on the Nvidia website you should wait on an update by the manufacturer. A driver directly from the Nvidia website can for example mess up the proprietary power targets, clock speeds and such. I had the same problem with my Acer Aspire Nitro. The drivers directly from the website messed up the power target causing my laptop to constantly overheat.

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the correct place or the Laptops section, but I recently received the GS73VR Stealth Pro. It has the GTX 1060. The driver is the default from the factory, and AMD doesn't seem to have a way to update it directly. I have GeForce Experience, but it won't let me update the drivera. It always fails. Even when running as administrator.

The NVIDIA website tells me to update through my laptop manufacturer website.

If I just download and force the NVIDIA update, will it mess up any of my software/hardware? I'm used to custom built desktops, not prefabricated laptops.

I have some glitches that will be resolved with the GPU updates, I just want to make sure I do it correctly.

Thanks in advance.

I would wait for MSI to release a update and i'm so confused why you would spend so much money on a laptop (cries inside)

You have two different products listed MSI GS62VR in the title, and GS73VR in the thread. Witch one do you need a driver for?

Sorry for the confusion. Samsung swipe messing up my spelling.

I didn't spend money on it. It was a gift for school. My old ACER has a hard enough time running Eclipse and compiling Hello World in Java. Anything more complex kills my i3. And it won't do and my graphics design either.

Sorry, Samsung Swipe keyboard messes upon the time.

Again, NOT AMD. Again, my phones keyboard changing my stuff.

On the support Website, MSI doesn't have the current driver. GeForce won't let me update with the desktop app. But it won't even let me reinstall the same driver. NVIDIA autocheck gives me the error to check my manufacturer.

I'm having some graphical errors, so I was looking to use the current drivers. I guess I can try and and always roll back if needed.

That may be your best bet. Some notebooks like my old Gateway(no laughing) you can't update anything except through the manufacturer and some of them update like once every six months or so, if that.

I think that time line is absurd! Driver updates come out regularly! But can be efficient if you need to make sure your ward ware works with it.

That may not be accurate in your case but with newer hardware it's hard to tell. Others may have more knowledge MSI laptops normal update schedule. I'm just speaking from my experience with them. Actually my last one was good about that but it's no longer a gaming laptop. Nothing but web surfing and the occasional Minecraft server. I just installed Mint 18 on it, so not much gaming going on there.

I used to have an MSI M645 laptop, the only way to update the GPU drivers was to edit the inf file to add the mobile GPU into the list of compatible devices and force the install.

MSI never released a single GPU driver update the entire time I had that laptop.
