Hi guys,

I have a question on setting up a RAID 0.

So with the Intel RAID you seem to have that splash screen that drags out boot time by ages. Would there be a way to disable that (Mobo: Asus z170 rog 8 hero).

The other option would be a RAID in windows, with which I have no experience.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Nope, the screen displays while the RAID controller is initialising and checking the arrays.

If you're using RAID for your boot drive, you cannot use Windows software RAID. The RAID array needs to be initialised before the OS can load and the OS needs to be loaded before the RAID array can be initialised.

I really wouldn't advise having a RAID 0 array for boot. It doesn't add any significant real world performance and isn't great for boot times.

It's not gonna be for boot. I want to get rid of HDDs in my PC and for now 500gb ssds are cheaper then 1 TB ones and would be really fast in RAID 0.

The screen always showing is a real bummer. The one machine which has 3 HDDs in RAID 5 takes like 10 to 15 seconds to get over that stupid screen.

raid 0 won't be really fast. Normally 1tb's are about the same cost and more reliable.

If its not boot, you can use raid in windows.

Just get one 1tb ssd, its not that much. Here is a 240 dollar 1tb ssd. its cheaper per gig than a 500gb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226596&cm_re=1tb_ssd-_-20-226-596-_-Product

I always thought RAID 0 would more or less double speeds.

Unfortunately hardware is not quite as cheap here in Germany. A Mushkin Reactor starts at 270€.

It is, but you giving up relibity.

Is 2x 500gb ssds really cheaper there?

Yeah 2x500 would be cheaper and I'd have that extra speedboost I don't really need. For data safety I'd have to dig up some old 1tb HDDs and hopefully get a NAS running.

https://geizhals.de/?cat=hdssd&sort=r&xf=4851_1#xf_top here is the site I use for comparison. It's in German but should be somewhat understandable.
