Hey Guys.

One of my friends wants to upgrade the RAM of his laptop. He has four DDR3L slots, two of them aren't used. Can I just throw in 2 more DDR3L sticks with the same amount of memory or do I have to play attention to something like memory speed.

Thanks!

Ram is a odd thing that even with exact same kits might cause problems. So you should get a similar speed and timings ram, prefered same brand/kit atleast. Overall that works, but you might just be unlucky.

You should be able to do so. However, the mobo could only support up to x capacity, so if you go over that, it won't work. Find out what the mobo of that laptop supports. About the speed: that should be fine, even if your new ram is faster than the supported ram, it will automatically run at a lower speed. Also, you should try to get RAM that has the same timings as the RAM that's already in the pc.

In general, it's best to match the RAM specifications as close as you can (things like frequency, CAS Latency, voltage) to get the best chances of them working together. They can work with mis-matched specs, but it's more likely to have issues.

Always match speed because if you don't the system will always run at the slowest speed so if you paired DDR3 1600 with with DDR3 1333 the system will run at 1333
