Partitioning my SSD

I have and SSD  in my laptop (specs in sig) and I would like to dual boot Win 10 and 7. I have a 240gb SSD which is 223gb actual size. I have 160gb free and would like to make a 100gb partition but Disk Management will not let me make a partition larger than 7gb. Why?

The answer is the size of the available shrink space can be restricted by the amount of space currently allocated to on the hard drive for the virtual memory page file, system protection maximum storage space size, and hibernation files. The location of the files on the hard drive plays a big part here because these files are marked as unmovable.

Disk Management is unable to relocate them. If these files are located in the middle of the total amount of free space on the disk, then only the free space on the other side (usually its right side) can be used to create a new partition.

You may turn to third party partition software.

because ur active OS is on the drive you want to partition, its possible but not worth the risks imo. You need to wipe the drive before making partitions in an ideal scenario.

So if I used 3rd party software would it move the files in order to make the partition? I don't want to risk messing up my OS.

Yes, professional partitioning software can reallocate those unmovable files without damaging them. But if you're not trust third party software, you can disable the hibernation to check if it is the roadblock. To turn off hibernation, you can run the command “powercfg /h off” in a command prompt. By default, hibernation is disabled in Windows 10. 

If still get no luck, back your system up and try third party software. My recommendation is AOMEI Partition Assistant. It works for my Windows 7.

I already disabled Hibernation and there is no change. Is there anything else I can try before using AOMEI?

Use Minitool Partition Manager or Easeus for the job.

I am afraid the answer is no. Do a backup for your C drive, and try that software.
