Hey guys

All my parts just arrived and I'm about to start building my PC.

I'm building on my fake plasticy vinyl floor to reduce static and will touch my psu every minute or so
Does it actually need to be plugged in to a wall but the wall switch turned off for this to work?

Also can you please link the best step by step building a pc for first timers video you know of? I'm going to need

to follow one

Thanks and thanks to everyone who helped me on select parts on this forum :)

Do yourself a favor and get an anti static wristband.  Linus explains how to use it in the link following, and yes it needs to be plugged in and the PSU turned off (that's the switch on the actual PSU): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQRIzgEVsjI

I sent you a PM with links to videos for building tutorials, I was unsure about posting them here since they aren't LTT videos and I don't want to break the forum rules.  If a mod can clarify that, let me know if it's allowed, I just saw the bit in the Community Standards about no advertising for non LTT/LMG material so I don't know.

I don't have an anti static wristband and i want to build tonight so I'm just going to build on my kitchen vinyl floor and touch the power supply every few minutes. So with the PSU does it need to be turned on at the wall and turned off on the PSU or can it be off from the wall?

Take your chances without the wristband if you want, personally I wouldn't.  Depends on the exact type of floor, but some vinyl flooring can still build up static.  The outlet should be live, but with the PSU off there is no electricity flowing.

Should i wear shoes or no shoes with the vinyl? what's better?

Also is the psu which is on and off for the psu is it the o or the - I don't want to change it unless i turn it on and something goes wrong. This is probably a stupid question but i just want to be sure
