Graphics Card Upgrade

Go to solution Solved by Jacktastic-Mofo,

The GTX 1060 is the way to go for sure, it's a lot better than a 970 and for not much more money.

Hello,

I currently have and i7 6700k and a GTX 580, I know! I would like to upgrade the graphics card now. I would like a GTX 1070, but I can't afford it right now. However I saw the 970 was going cheap on Amazon. However I read that the GTX 1060 is the 980 + 5% better, however I don't want to waste money, as I could save up. I don't always game on my rig, I mainly work in Photoshop and Premiere. I do like to play games now and again when I feel like it, however in the last couple of months I've been doing this more.

Thanks In advance,

Josh

More like -5, not +5...

At any rate, if selling the 580 first to get a bit more cash for a 1070 isn't an option, then go for a 1060 (6gb). It's pretty much the best you can get.

Rather than being surprised about a 1060 6gb (which is the original 1060, btw), you should be surprised about the existence of a 1060 3gb called "1060" instead of a 1050ti... or maybe even 1060 SE would do.

The 1060 is certainly at least 5% faster than the 980.

Yes, there is a 6GB GTX 1060 that goes for $250 and up as well as a cut down version with 3GB's of VRAM for $200.

JS, the 6GB GTX 1060 really should have been called the GTX 1060 ti.

Depends on the title. Overall, though, the 980 is marginally faster.
