Lubuntu Shows Command Prompt over GUI

I installed Lubuntu on one of my older computers, but when I boot up Lubuntu, all that shows up is a command prompt. I can log in through the command prompt, but I don't know what to do after that. Does anyone know how I can get into the GUI?

try startx, it starts the DE (desktop environment) if the desktop manager isnt working correctly

Don't do startx.

There is a mechanism called a display manager, that prompts you with a password and starts the actual desktop environment.
Lubuntu uses a display manager called lightdm.

From your command line, you logged on to, try:

systemctl stop lightdm
systemctl start lightdm

Try that and report back if lightdm starts.
