So tonight my HDD, a Hitachi 1tb 7.2k rpm, started to do its loud read/write noise and It just went on forever until I reset the pc. I wasnt any sound I had not heard before but the duration made me pause, should I get an ssd? I've only ever changed ram and GPUs and am not familiar with drive installation. I dont have a caddy for dell optiplex 790 for an ssd but seeing as it wouldnt make an physical movement in operation, stuffing it in the spare empy cd drive slot with my cable managed cords may do. Ideas, thought please!

Yeah, that sounds fine.

When it comes to using a ssd, it's no different than a hdd.

I DID A THING, I stole borrowed a laptop hdd from a shitty laptop and learned how to create a partition and now have a pseudo raid clone disk ready to backup my older hdd:P

Hi @SammyGoad!

You can get a SSD and it should do the job.

As for a specific cloning software, a lot of manufacturers offer free tools. For instance, if your HDD is WD, you can use Acronis True Image WD Edition - I have personally used it a lot of times and had no issues whatsoever. Here's a link you can download it from:
http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=vnvG7J

Furthermore, there is a KB article with detailed description of the process you can use as well:

Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions you may have. :)

If this post helped you, please like and choose it as a best answer.   :)
