OCZ ARC SSD LOCKED - Dell 990

pbgben

Hello,

I booted my computer one morning to a dialog asking for the HDD PASSWORD. I had not set a password and after some googling was unable to unlock it, even when using the hdperm commands. \

The SSD is an OCZ ARC 100 (120GB) It should be under warranty but would rather fix it my self if needed, the data would have been nice to keep but a wipe is fine. (Secure wipe command was unsuccessful)

Thanks for your time,

Did you try a debug script on the drive?

So you want to wipe the drive? Is this correct?

I don't think I will be able to unlock it, I assume its corrupted. So if a wipe brings it back into a usable state then yes please.

It just happened one morning, the computer had been left for the weekend and on the Monday it was requesting a password. (It had shut itself down over the weekend some time, no power faults) Was running WIN10 before the anniversary update.

So does the system go through a boot up sequence or does it go right away to a hdd password request?

Not yet, been trying to get Dell to supply a master password but seems only the drive manufacturer can do that. OCZ goes through Toshiba now, and will likely just RMA as they're still in warranty. I suspect the drive is dead.

Thanks for helping though.

  • 7 years later...

i had this ssd fooling up quite a several times. what helps each time is to unplug it and leave disconnected for 12-24 hours. on next boot the SMART stats should be reset to zero (except remaining lifetime)
