Also for adding SSD's and HDD's to the laptop can you simply choose any or does it have to be specific for your laptop?

like mok mentioned. any 2.5in or M2. I would advise MLC or 3D-VNand TLC SSDs. Like 850 Evos.

When upgrading a laptops ram do you need to buy motherboard specific ram the same as you would for a desktop? Or are any "laptop ram" acceptable as long as the laptop can except its capacity.

I tryed using http://www.crucial.com/ site tool but it seems it doesn't have this specific model it its search options.

ram has to be DDR3L as per the configurator

SSD / HDD can be anything 2.5inch, or M.2
