GPU Bios Limit?

Hai,

I got a 980 OC'd nicely still within temp and power limits,

but the issue is, altho afterburner has much more to give my voltage wont go any higher:

 

currently i have +39 and it gives me 1243mV if i put the dial any higher it stays at that voltage.

Ive updated drivers n such with no luck

my setting are not the issue i dont think:

 

My guess is ive reached the limit the default GPU bios has to offer unless there is something else?

Just wanted a second opinion as i MAY consider custom bois's

That is quite common nowadays after maxwell cards came out, using a modded BIOS can help but there is still a physical voltage shunt on the card that will still limit you to after a certain degree. Only way completely around it would be at that point is to physically modify the card to remove that limit.

Ill be doing some research on the custom bios's if i can get more out of the card,

do you have and suggested resources to look at?

ye im aware of the risks etc.

This was a good tutorial on the forums on how to mod a BIOS as for places to get reliable BIOS's I wouldn't be too sure about that:

ooo thanks a bunch, ill probably look into editing my extracted bios so i know how much to changed and no accedental over volts etc.

Just a quick update,

after looking everywhere for info to the hard V cap online i could not find anything,

so i gave Custom bios's a go using maxwell tweaker to create the custom bios and the guide you mentioned.

It gave a very lil increase to voltage only 0.010 when i set the max voltage to be 1.3 and tweaking it up with afterburner,

after that i reflashed with the default bios for the sake of stability

It will revert to default settings though if you use the stock BIOS after.

I know the gains wasnt worth it in the end, i could not OC any further and if i ever sell it i dont want a custom bios on it

Oh ok then I guess it couldn't go much further unless it was physically modded.
