Lime Server/computer upgrade

Hello

As part of an upgrade I would very much like to ask what would be the most cost effective build with only a motherboard, CPU and RAM to play with.

We already have: 

• Cooler Master Silencio 352 series; 
• two SSHD configured in RAID 1; 
• PSU from Zalman ZM450-GS;
• Scythe Mine Rev-B Quiet Heatpipe CPU Cooler;
• Two copies of windows 7 pro (64-bit) and unRAID from Lime-tech
• A simple VGA monitor 13-inch

 

1. Budget: €600,- (we are in the Netherlands)
2. AIM: running UnRAID with two virtual computers running windows 7 (64-bit) who are running some kind of medical admin software, MS office and accessed off-site (if the systems allows it also OwnCloud)
   1. at least 7GB of ECC RAM per virtual computer
   2. keep energy cost to a minimum
   3. all new parts i.e. no second hand parts
   4. A system ready for 24/7 workload
   5. A core (CPU) and RAM upgradeable computer; to support more virtual machines in the future when we find new colleagues.
   6. Keep a relatively quiet system
3. Monitor: not needed
4. pheriferals: not needed
5. Why we are upgrading:
   1. Because in the future we would like to support more virtual computers (like 6 in total for example) that are accessed off-site (where the current configuration would not allow an upgrade).
   2. The current CPU, motherboard and RAM are going to be used for a different build which is going to be a local NAS
   3. To have a more stable system (in this new build the introduction of ECC would reduce failures.... hopefully)
