Hello, I built a desktop for my brother, the speccs are

  • CPU:        AMD Athon II 750K
  • MBoard:   MSI FM2-A55M-E33
  • Graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD7770 GHz
  • Chassi:    Codegen Q-3335-A2 460W (Chassi I use different PSU)
  • Memory:  G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600MHz CL9
  • HDD:        WD Blue WD7500AZEX 750gb
  • PSU:        Cooler Master M2 Silent Pro 520W

At first I used the Codegen PSU that came with the chassi, but the PC sometimes shut down randomly, so I got a new PSU to be safe. But the problem persists, after a couple of hours of use the PC randomly shuts down. With the new PSU it doesn't even start, the front led just blinks red, the CPU fan jumps a bit then it dies again. I guess the new PSU had some kind of safety feature if something short circuits in won't start again?.

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot which part of the PC is faulty?

thermal paste/cooler wasnt applied properly?
what exact PSU are u using sounds like a low quality one at a low wattage. if it was 80 plus certified at 460W then yes it hsould be fine otherwise i think u cheaped out on the PSU

ok for now i think you motherboard shuts it self down for because of high temps

1 change your thermal paste and check if your cooler was applied properly \go to your motherboard bios and disable temps protection shutdown now if you pc did not shutdown any more then we know it's from you cooler or thermal paste ..........don't forget to enable the temps protection shutdown after the test

2 did you get good power supply cause if you got when of those cheap ones then maybe that is the reason for the shutdown

If it was a heat problem wouldn't it fail instantly when I try to stress it? Rather than when Its been idling for a while? I used the preapplied thermal paste which is why it is hot, but idle it's just 35ish. Thx for answers ill get back when i've tried with some arctic silver outside the case.
