Adding ram in quad/dual channel setup?

Go to solution Solved by Oshino Shinobu,

Nope. Quad/dual/triple channel is dependant on the board and CPU to manage. There's nothing special about "dual channel RAM" or "quad channel RAM", it's just a marketing tactic for those who don't know much about it.

Assuming that they share the same specs, two sets of "dual channel" RAM will perform the same as a set of "quad channel" RAM, as both will run in quad channel (provided your board supports it and you put them in the correct slots)

by adding another dual channel kit, will I lose a any performance compared to if I had bought a 4x8gb kit at the beginning?
