Skylake Compability Checkup

Why? :c

Coz you need Z170 to OC it and if you're not going to OC the CPU, then buying a K processor is a waste.

Stick with i5 6500.

I don't know if I have the stock cooler for my old cpu.

If you can find the stock cooler then sell it with the stock cooler.

Just now, c0d0ps said:

Oh okay.

I guess i'll settle with 6500 then.
Less of hassle.

Should I keep my old ram or get new?

Just find new mobo now.

I'm fine with your case, psu and ram choice in the first post.

And now since you'll be sticking with the 6500 as cpu, left the mobo to figure out.

Find a cheap mobo that supports DDR4 RAM and you're golden.

You don't think I should use ddr 3 ram with the i5 6500?

Well, you can if you want, then the mobo you choose is fine and you don't need new RAM.

I won't stop you, I just feel that DDR4 is the way moving forward, if you feel that you will keep this system for long without upgrading then feel free.

I just mean it's good even if a i5 6500 doesn't need it, it will keep it way cooler and way more silent.

if "you" already own one, OK

but buying it when you already have the boxed cooler (that can do a good job on it's own) ... it's 30$ that you can spend elsewhere (better SSD or some other shit)

The second option mobo that was advised for me to get was b150.

So I chose this one "MSI B150M Gaming Pro" because it has similar pricing.

Ram "Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 PC19200/2400MHz CL16 8GB (BLS8G4D240FSA)", I think this is same ram.

Good price, 8 GB.

If the price is fair then go for this.

1 stick of 8GB is cool, if you ever feel that it is not enough later on you can just get another stick.

The total is 3279 SeK which is 341,44 euros and 341,44 USD.
I think this is good price, for my country.

Hopefully it is all okay now..

I got a big scare when I heard that they weren't compatible/good together.

That's actually cheap for a CPU, Mobo, RAM, case and PSU combo.

I did a pcpartpicker list and it total up to $408.

Oh, cool!
I am using a site similar to pcpartpicker (it finds the lowest price).
I'll check the store price but it shouldn't be much more (depending on how many stores I buy from).

So in summary,

i5 6500

MSI B150M Gaming Pro

8GB DDR4 RAM

Corsair 200r

Seasonic M12II EVO 520W

No compatibility issue whatsoever and good to go.

Yes. Thanks.

The rest of my stuff is in signature.

For example a leftover 212 evo that I could use if I clean off the "tube mess".

Just note that the mobo is micro ATX which is smaller than the standard ATX size.

Some people like it, some people don't and some doesn't care, so yea.

It's just smaller in size, depends if you like seeing stuffs inside your case or not I guess, personal preference.

I rarely try to look inside.
Especially with my case, I have no window.

Sometimes I look from the top though.

I would suggest go and check whether the mobo have all the i/o that you need.

Chances are it does though.

Just make sure when you actually build it later, the standoffs are in correct position for the board.

My brother's friend will help me put it together.

So it should go fine :)
