Need advice on $600-700ish HTPC build

VagabondWraith

I would like your guys' help on a $600-700 HTPC build. The build must contain an AMD card. I never had one before and want to go with AMD (looking at an RX 470 or 480). I'm gonna game (console settings or higher) occasionally on this, but mainly want this build for 4K movies and surround sound setup. Idk if an i3-6100 will suffice, or if I can fit an i5 in there, I will. I would like this to be a small build.

PCPP lists would be welcome.

Thank you you for the help. :)

CPU: Intel Core i7 7820X Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H110i GTX Mobo: MSI X299 Gaming Pro Carbon AC RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 (3000MHz/16GB 2x8) SSD: 2x Samsung 850 Evo (250/250GB) + Samsung 850 Pro (512GB) GPU: NVidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FE (W/ EVGA Hybrid Kit) Case: Corsair Graphite Series 760T (Black) PSU: SeaSonic Platinum Series (860W) Monitor: Acer Predator XB241YU (165Hz / G-Sync) Fan Controller: NZXT Sentry Mix 2 Case Fans: Intake - 2x Noctua NF-A14 iPPC-3000 PWM / Radiator - 2x Noctua NF-A14 iPPC-3000 PWM / Rear Exhaust - 1x Noctua NF-F12 iPPC-3000 PWM

Featuring a FRACTAL design node which is quite small

Even though you insisted on a RX 480 but I went with similar GTX 1060 because they available in mini size which will be nicer.

Thanks for the constructive critisism, The reason i put a better cooler is to improve audio levels as the stock cooler is pretty loud, plus if they wants to upgrade to z170 in the future this will be a great addition for overclocking. The Hitachi was cheap so I put it in, tbh probably wasnt the best idea but still. and the PSU is fine its EVGA and its a supernova its going to run fine

though they could get rid of the cooler and then spend the money on a better HDD but thats up to them

Sorry, should have specified. :P Definitely the shoe box. It's a sexy look for an HTPC.

yeah.

I agree on the point but not all cooler are loud. sometime  a bad hdd could vibrate a lot (an example with my seagate which is horrible)

- i3 6100, will probably be plenty

- that mobo is hideous, but you wont see it, and it has wifi. (in case you need it, it's there.)

- 8GB ram, plenty is plenty, and you can add another stick in the future

- WD blue

- zotac GTX1060, i tried looking for a decent card on the amd side, but the prices are just... why... the RX480 seems to be cheaper than decent RX470 offerings, and the RX460 offerings all look rather questionable for the price as well... besides, this thing will fit in your kid-sized shoebox case xD

- talking about kid-sized shoeboxes, this case is practicly about as small as you can get without removing those things that make your pc a pc :P

- this power supply.. may look odd, except for this: place it fan-side up, it'll passively vent out the top of the case, is a good quality unit, and will *never* need its fan. on top of that it being modular is a huge leg up on a tiny system like this :P

Great you guys! I'll look in more detail when I get home.

I still insist on an RX 470/480. Probably 480 since I like to try and buy a little above what I really need. I also want to OC the GPU as I've never played around with AMD. And I'll probably buy an i5 6600K. CPU and GPU is what I like to spend the most on. Even if I have to raise the budget a bit to say, $800-900 I'll do it. I would like this build to last me for quite a few years so having overclockable components when I need to is worth it to me.
