I need a 4k monitor for my build but do not know which one to get. Should I go with the cheaper and faster TN panel or the more expensive slower but more color vibrant IPS panel. also which one should I but that is under $500?

Depends on which game you play

High, fast refresh rate like 144hz will be nice for first person shooter game like cs go, bf, cod...

While if you want to experience the true color then go with IPS panel

Same boat as me. Currently no 4k monitors go above 60 hz. So get the IPS, that's what I am doing. You can get a really good one for gaming 27 inch for less then $500
