Cannot boot computer

Go to solution Solved by ShingHim,

After reinserting the front panel connectors the computer somehow magically boots. Thanks.

I've changed my existing PSU which is working fine to another PC, but it won't boot. The PSU is working fine because it functions normally in my another computer, but in the new computer, the motherboard lights up, but pressing the power switch won't turn it on. All cables are secure and tight, ATX 12V is connected, CPU power is connected. What's he problem here?

The front panel is connected correctly.

Is it giving you any post codes? any signs of life at all?

Sounds funky but I would try switching around the ram and see if that changes anything, I've seen that a ton of times.

What other kind of trouble shooting have you tried?  is the power button plugged in correctly?  have you tried just putting a Flathead on the posts ?

Switching RAM doesn't help.

I'm wondering if the board is shot, have you inspected all of the or looked up the schematics for the board and traced them?>

Sorry I don't quite get it? And by the way, sorry for being rude I was very pissed because I was just trying to add a graphics card and changing a new power supply to the old system, which all have proved to work in another PC, but the damn thing just won't turn on.

If their are any bulging capacitors on the board that could be causing it or any leads not actually connecting to their routes. You might be able to see the circuits with your eye but definitely can notice the capacitors.

So is this a new computer or an old machine you are trying to get working again?

This is an old machine working all

fine, but I decided to add a graphics card, but the old power supply does not have the required wattage, so I transferred my power supply from my main rig to this old computer. My power supply is definitely enough to power this graphics card, its 550 w, cooler Master, powering a GTX 760

Sorry for the late response, I was on a business trip and didn't really have time to check forums.

Has anything changed with this computer?

Remove the graphics card.

Make one change at a time.

After changing the power supply, you should have just powered it on for a second at least to check it powers on. If that doesn't work, the problem is the PSU.

If you don't know where the headers on the motherboard are, how can you be sure you connected them correctly?

How could it be the psu when it was pulled from his current rig, which is working??

A wire could have come loose, the power up pin/cable is not working, a connector is not making complete contact.

Always make little steps when doing things like this, then you can deal with problems as they come.

Make sure that the motherboard power wire is firmly in, CPU power firmly in, and GPU power firmly in.

Sorry I didn't know the front panel connections are called headers. Now I know.
