if my sig doesn't work, ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0, AMD FX-6100 OC'd to 4.4 Ghz on a Hyper 212+, 12 GB DDR3 at 1333MHz, Radeon R9 270x 2GB.

My rig is outdated.  I can't squeeze much more out of my CPU.  AMD is shoveling out CPU's with Deus eX.  So an FX8350 with a game I'm actually interested in for $180 is tempting.  Would getting faster ram give me more improvement or should I save all my pennies for when Zen comes out.  My buddy is selling me his R9 390 8G when he gets something else Black Friday.  I might get an RX 480 instead. It depends.  So far my rig has been reliable and hasn't killed me yet.  I'd like to squeeze as much as I can but I don't know what else I can do.

On a side note, I did find it laughable that my G3258 rig at 4.5GHz outperformed the AMD rig in some instances.

There's a reason why AMD benchmarks their GPUs on intel CPUs. I really wanna buy a testbench and a G3258 just to see if I won the lottery and can hit 5GHz on my AIO cooler lol.

But I digress. Upgrading RAM will only give you better performance if it bottlenecks your PC. You can watch Linus's multiple videos on how ram speed affects gaming. long story short, unless is 866 MHz, it doesnt.

2. an R9 390 is useless unless you play at 1440p. Unless you're paying the same or less than an RX 480.

C. If you're set on staying with AMD CPUs, wait for zen. Those will be bundled with games also, almost for certain. the 8350s will technically be 2 gens ago when zen comes out (even though the 9590 is just top the 10 percentile of 8350s with a dank OC)

Next. If you get a new GPU, your rig will probably last you..... maybe another year? you could spend the cash on a nicer GPU like a 1070 or R9 Fury/nano and then it'll last you more than 1/1.5 years (unlike an RX 480) or save up and do a full build with zen.

Unfortunately, the MOBO on that is an MSI H81 ITX.  I get what you mean though.  That has crossed my mind a few times though.

For the G3258 I think if I wasn't using the stock cooler, I'd get MAYBE 4.8GHz.  No idea what I'll get.  I'm having weird issues with the USB3.

I try to game at 1080p ultrawide.  That's why I want a better GPU.  Yeah the buddy was gonna have me pay $250 for the 390.  So in the ballpark of a new RX480.  I really do want to stay AMD.  Lol I wish I just had money to blow on a 9590 and a 990FX Sabertooth just for bragging rights.
The other thing is, if I get the 480/390 I'm going to be transferring that and a couple things over to the new rig, like what you said.  It's kind of a matter of if I want to spend the money now or wait and blow it all up at the same time.  I'd love for there to be a mini ITX MOBO for AM4.  I like the SG13.

So status update...  A buddy needed a computer and Frys just happen to have a sale for a FX8370 and a motherboard for $194 after tax.  I sold him the board and my FX6100 with the wraith cooler and ended up only paying ~$60 in the end.  It added about 10 frames average to my games at stock.  I ran Fallout4 maxed at 1080p and got ~45 average when a few things are happening before.  Now I get 55 or 60 if I'm running my GPU overclock.  I do intend on doing a new build with Zen a year after it comes out now that I have the best normal AMD FX CPU.  And I'll probably use the GPU i end up buying within the next couple months in that build.
