little dillema

I just bought a new monitor from the thrift store for my old workstation, and planned to use vga to connect it, as the pc only has its integrated gpu with vga, but it turns out the adc is broken so i only get bars and snow, using dvi works, but it doesn't have dvi, so i need to buy a gpu, it desnt need to be powerful at all; just cheap. any recommendations?

that wont work, because dvi-i is just vga over dvi, which means that the adc still has to convert the analogue signal. and besides, the monitor doesn't have dvi-i

You just said using DVI works correct?  Is this DVI on the GPU or via integrated GPU.  So you wouldn't be using the VGA port on your motherboard that doesn't work, but the DVI port (since you said the DVI port works) Unless I'm not understanding you correctly..

the pc has only vga, the monitor has vga and dvi, i need a gpu to output dvi to the monitor as the vga on the monitor doesn't work

and a passive vga to dvi adapter is putting vga over dvi so it will still need to convert the dvi back to vga; which doesn't work.

a little expensive, i just need to output to a display, maybe in the 10-20 USD range?
