Slow VirtualBox Ubuntu

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS through VirtualBox on my Asus UX303UB Laptop, the specs are as follows:

i7-6500U

GTX940M 2GB

12GB RAM

512GB SSD

Windows 10

3200x1800 Display

However, it is running at an unusable pace, with simple dragging of windows chopping along the screen and text appearing seconds later.

Anyone familiar with this issue?

Try VMWare.

snip

Use kvm. Its built in and faster than any other solution.

Hmm, the only other thing I can think of is adequate hardware designated for the VM, but Ubuntu is so light it shouldn't take much. Did this just start happening?

It's a new laptop so, yes this is the first time I've tried VirtualBox on it

Yeah, it doesn't seem like guest additions helped. I might give VMWare a shot.

VMWare works flawlessly, that's really strange. I'll stick with it though
