Hey folks. My high powered gaming laptop just crapped out due to a lightning storm and given I was planning to build a new, better, rig next year, plans have been pushed to be more urgent. I currently was using my high powered laptop for 1080p video editing and rendering, but also code compiling for 3D games. I also, naturally, would like to be able to game on it too since it's going to end up having to be a pretty beefy rig I am guessing, given that my beefy laptop with a 980m and 6700k i7 was chugging along at times, especialyl during rendering and compiling.

What is the best I can build for under $2000 to accomplish this? I have tried video editing on various other computers and they all crap the bed when it times to render.

even though it's only 1000$, here's a pretty good pc:

I'd say get the 6700k instead and a gtx 1080, and if you have money to spare (which I'm quite certain you would) get a case with better airflow and possibly a ater cooler for the cpu. Aside from that you could add one of those new 960 pro's samsung just launched or some other form of really fast m.2/pcie storage to speed up the editing a lot
