I've been looking into getting a new PSU since I cant get any extra cables for my current PSU without paying the price of what a completely new one would cost..

I've borrowed a freinds Corsair750w PSU with a warning that it heats up the entire system, this seems to be due to the fan not running unless the PSU is under sufficent load. I'm not sure how this works, I cant seem to "force" the fan to boot, so I realy dont want to use a Corsair PSU that have this otherwise neat feature. Is there anyway to fix this or should I just go for another brand?

Your friend sort of lied to you - PSUs do NOT heat up the system and the fan WILL turn on if the internals of the PSU get toasty - this feature is on 90% of good modern PSUs. The ones without it are either cheap or crap.

I dont know what to tell you, but My own system got quite a bit hotter with the Corsair PSU then my own XFX PSU.. So I cant really disclaim he's statement, but rather support it..
And it surtently wasent a cheap PSU...

That could mean something else - if the PSU is Crossair and not Corsair (or simply defective) it could be pumping high and unstable voltage through your components and could kill them. Any good PSU WILL NOT heat up the system - it's literally impossible.

It's possible if he doesn't have any case fan and his PSU acts as an exhaust before this.

That's very counter productive and could lead to premature PSU failure

I got a Cooler Master Seidon 240M in the top of the case (exhausting), the PSU was faceing downwards to the floor, and with a standart case fan intake in the front and exhaust in the back..

I wouldn't know, it's his system, but if he can confirm that's the thing then yea, that PSU will not do well for him.

If that's the case, then there's no way the PSU will heat up your system, it has to be something else.

So the conclutions have to be some sort of malfunction in in the PSU?

Then there is no way the PSU is heating up anything - it could be defective and supplying higher voltage. Which exact PSU is it?

CXv3 aka CX green are known to be very poor quality. CX600 and CX750 are by far the worst of the bunch - it's a defective PSU. Don't use it as if it results in increased temps, it's likely defective and pumping unstable voltage to your system.

The reason the fan doesn't turn on is because the PSU is running cool enough not to need it. The fan will turn on once the PSU reaches a certain temperature or workload percentage.

Even if the PSU was hot, it exhausts heat out of the case, not into the case.

Okay.. But should I stick to Corsair, and what model should I go for? I love my XFX PSU, never got any problems with it, before I had to re-order my case to fit my new GPU, I had to move my SSD and HDD further away from my Optical, now I cant power it, the cables have been lost when I moved, and cables are as expensive as a new PSU..

I get this is how it is suppose to work, that's why I came here to get some reasoning behind the "nightmare"..

It a Corsair CX750M..

Unless I'm missing a change (particularly with the new, updated model), the CX750M should not be a semi-passive design. It's a design that have the fan actively spin all of the time and ramp up at a higher RPM if the internal gets too hot. It doesn't sound like the fan is defective, as you have said "unless the PSU is under sufficent load". Are you sure you have the CX750M?

What was the temperature of your PSU before and after, anyways? Was the ambient temperature of your room the same? If the your previous system configuration had shown a lower temperature at the same ambient, same load, and the same fan orientation (bottom mounted PSU case with the fan pointing down and taking from the outside), one reason possible explanation can be due to VRM on your GPU / MB may need to work harder to compensate for the larger voltage drop that the PSU is delivering which in turn can drive the voltages up. This can limit your overclocking potential as well as make your system run a little hotter.

However, while it can increase the temperature like that, it shouldn't be so high that warrant a concern. If it was, no one would recommend the Seasonic M12II-B 520/620, as the CX750M will provide better voltage stability.
