First time builder

Go to solution Solved by carsonwen,

for example the Cooler Master MasterAir Maker 8 will look good with your build

Processor: i7 6700k
Heatsink: Noctua NH-D15
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200MHz
SSD: SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2
Graphics Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 8GB ROG STRIX OC Edition

And my question is whether I should get an Asus ROG Maximus VIII Formula or do you bruhs have other motherboard suggestions?

Also my colours for the build are red and black and my case is mastercase pro 5 with tempered glass side panel

I havent ordered any of the parts yet so feel free to make suggestions for me to change any other components

But the RAM that I have picked out runs at 3200MHz and this would keep the motherboard constantly overclocked as its second highest overclocking option to run memory is 3200MHz which would make it extremely hot and reduce its life span by a lot

no it wouldn't. ram does not make that much heat and it should last for years

But wouldnt this put the motherboard under a constant strain in any other way

no it has good cooling and as long as there is airflow when it is on you should be fine.

Have you considered Gskill Trident Z series RAM instead? I personally think they look really nice with red and black build.

Just get the Asus Maximus Hero VIII, it has the same ROG red color scheme as the formula you were considering.

Have you considered a better looking cooler? something with a black heatsink or black heatsink shroud maybe? since the giant silver heatsink will stick out and ruin your black and red theme.

I did actually try and look for some better heatsinks but I couldn't find any with better reputation than Noctua fans so I t hought I would try and paint it myself like a monkey and hope nothing would mess up too much

Yo this fan is really cool and after comparing them I saw that the noctua fan isnt compatible with the LGA 1151 socket or atleast it didnt specify on the official page. Thanks for saving my ass from wasting money

Any LGA 1150 compatible cooler is compatible with LGA 1151 as well.

So then why do people feel the need to write compatibility for 1151 and 1150 separately?

Likely because people who don't know much about pc building wont know about the compatibility and sockets etc. It would be bad marketing not to list the compatibility.

Because of people like you that aren't well versed into PCs and don't know about multi-generation compatibility.
