Switch limiting my internet speed?

Go to solution Solved by Lurick,

That's because it only has 10BaseT ports which are 10Meg ports

I have the 3com Superstack II Switch 1000 that I have recently installed in my network. My network setup looks like this c05cdb0e0a.png

The problem is that without the switch in the way, I get 60mb down, but with it I only get around 7mb down. This is not only with youtube and stuff, it is also with in-network file transfers through Windows Homegroup. Is the switch just too old or what?

So I'm guessing I'm limited to 10mb/s with this thing?

Yup

You can pick up a switch capable of doing gigabit for like $30 to $50 for a 5 to 8 port, like this:

Thanks a shit ton man. Looks like the old one is going up for sale to fund a new gigabit switch! In the meantime I'll use the extra ports on the other router.

Not to discourage you, but you probably can't get more that $1 for that thing. Last time I worked with 10base t was for setting up a nostalgia network.

My native language is C++
