So I might get I new motherboard because I got screwed and my motherboard doesn't support SLI which I didn't realize until after I built my computer :(!  That aside can I just put in a new motherboard and go or do I have to re install Windows and will I need a new copy of Windows?

BTW by the time I do this I will be running Windows 8.1

Normally you can switch over mobos without making problems for the OS. Also similar topics are already on the forum so use the search tool next time before asking a question.

It might run fine without re-installing but its always best to do a clean install.

As for having to get a new copy of windows what version of windows are you installing and is it retail or OEM?

I will be running Windows 8.1 when I do this... also if I do a clean install how much will I lose?

Anything and Everything that doesn't come pre-installed with windows. (Chrome, Steam, Files, Bookmarks, etc.)

Since I will be switching from the ASUS P8Z77-V LX to the ASUS P8Z77-V LK they are so similar do you think I NEED to re install?

Major hardware changes always warrant a clean install.

So is it worth it to get a new motherboard for SLI and do a re install?

The motherboard I'm not sure about. The reinstall, definitely.

I would do a reinstall and if the activation doesn't work if you have activated this key before I would try using phone activation by doing windows+R and "slui.exe 4".
