Hello!

I'm building a PC for my living room.

Only task will be playback of video in 1080p

No gaming what so ever.

so far these are the components I've picked.

MB: GA-F2A85XN-WIFI

CPU: A10 6700 (APU) (Open for suggestions here, 6700 might be overkill, and I just want something small and quiet.

RAM: 2x4GB 2100

HD: Samsung 830 120gb SSD (re-use)

PSU: I'm thinking something external. Obviously depends on case.

OS: Windows 8

So what i need help with is picking out a case to use for this build.

I'm looking for something small, and QUIET.

It would be a huge plus if it has a slim blu-ray drive, but not strictly a requirement.

Fanless would be preferable, if it has VESA mounts then it would just be perfect!

A nice low profile noctua cooler would get rid of the loud stock cooler and getting a 6800K would give you the option of over clocking extending the lifetime of this CPU, as well some 2133 MHz ram would be nice. I know you say you aren't gaming but the option is always nice.

The Silverstone Tek GD05B-USB3.0 is what I plan to use for my future HTPC build.

Intel Core i7-8700K @ 4.8GHz | Corsair H110i GTX | EVGA RTX 2080 XC | Asus ROG Maximus XI | Intel M.2 nVME SSD 1TB | Samsung 850 EVO 2X2TB | 32GB G.SKILL Trident Z 3200MHz CL14 RAM | EVGA SuperNova GS 1050W | Kept cool & quiet in a Fractal Design Define R5 Window with all Noctua fans

As said in the topic i would prefer a fanless case with heat pipes and a aluminium body to completely get rid of any noise,

but yes, if that's not possible, I'll be using a low profile noctua cooler.

In regards to gaming, the reason this machine never will be used for gaming,

is that I already have 3 machines capable of running anything you throw at them.

Also since I'm looking for something very small, I fear the extra power(and heat) of the 6800K

would make a fanless build impossible.

Also would anyone know if opting for a A8 5500 would make any difference heat wise compared to a A10 6700 ?

They are rated at same TDP (65)

The silverstone milo seems to be something in the right direction.

I looked at their petit PT13, which is pretty much what i want, but it doesn't seem

to support the fm2(+) socket.

The Milo ML02 also looks good. and could definately be a pick. but again it is a bit large for a itx case.

ML05 also looks good.

Tordal used a nice case here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/30942-hush-build-simple-passively-cooled-htpc/

Are you going to be adding any HDD's in the case or will you be streaming from a NAS?  I have the A10, but I do light gaming in my htpc.  I would recommend something like an A8 5500 or even an A6 5400K if you want to save some money, and then undervolt and underclock to make them run a bit cooler.

Main rig: i7 3770K @ 4.54, Sapphire R9 290, Sabertooth Z77, 16 GB Mushkin Redline 2133, Lian Li PC-P50R, Seasonic 860xp Platinum, Kingston Hyper X 3K 240GB

freeNAS server: AMD Athlon II 170u 20W, 5 x 3TB WD Red in raid-z1 (12 TB)

media centre: AMD A10-5700, crucial M4 (boot), running XBMC,4 x 3TB WD Red, 3 x 3TB WD green + 2TB green in FlexRAID (17 TB)

@algoat: no harddrives, just a ssd for OS and a few programs.

all the media content will be streamed from netflix or my server :-)

Would a A6 be powerful enough to handle streaming 1080p with possible 5.1 or 7.1 audio?

I have no idea about the raw power requirements, this is the first time I'm building anything

small or low power. Also I don't have any intention of displaying 3D as that would require a new TV first,

and also it gives me a headache.

The A6 should be enough as people build htpc's with celerons. But probably go quad core just to be safe. Your power requirements would be very minimal, I doubt you'd even reach 100W.
