Every minute or so I'm receiving 3-4 pings of latency spike up to almost 300ms on my wireless connection that is otherwise stable with <1-2 ms of delay!

Is this just how WLAN connections are?

My Laptops "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" network adapter has the latest driver "18.33.3.2"

I'm using a 5GHz Band with a 100mbps connection provided by my ISP (so i don't think its a bandwidth problem) on a D-Link "DSL-2890AL"

Anything I can do to minimize the latency spike or stop them?

its like RF interference. The 5ghz spectrum has a very short range so the further away you are and more items the signal has to pass through, the worse it can/will become.
