Formating Internal hard drive HELP!

Go to solution Solved by jared404,

Backup the D drive, delete the D partition. Extend your os drive to at least 60gb, but I agree with @wrathoftheturkey, just make it one drive. The reason why it's grayed out is because there is no free space before or after the os partition. Partitions must be contiguous!

so.

I just built me pc and, windows asked me how large should the system storage be. I chose 19.5gb for system files.

but after 1 day of use on C: drive, it has 300mb left.

I didn't download anything on it.

didn't install any programs on it.

didn't save anything on it.

didn't move any file on it.

All my programs and files are on my D: drive

I tried extending my C: Drive using disk management, but its grayed out.

I still have 300gb of unallocated space.

if there is a fix to it feel free to leave a comment to help me.

but if there is no fix. I am looking forward to formatting my whole drive, and install windows from start.

and chose how big my C: drive should be.

but how do I do that.

I want to format it, like I just bought the Hard drive, without the partitions already made just BRAND NEW like.

THANKSS!!! :D

Dude, just let Windows take up everything. You don't need a separate partition for files.

If it won't let you expand to fill empty space, you might need to reformat the drive.

how do I format it!!!

Yeah, you're gonna have to backup and reformat the drive.

Go to "Disk management" (search it up in your start menu)

You can't extend your boot partition because Windows sees it as a "basic partition".

Whenever you extend something in software, Windows then sees it as a "dynamic partitions".

For some reason(at least in Windows 7), the OS cannot reside on any physical disk where it contains a dynamic disk.

And  as @crashahotrod mentioned, he will not be able to format the drive. Thus, you will have to reinstall windows from USB or DVD.

@bob51zhang when I first installed windows it automatically made the C: drive 500mb I extended to 19.5GB (it said I could only extend it once)

so I did it, I saw on forums that it only took around 12-15 gb so I just made it 19.5gb. but now I realise that I need around 25-30gb on the c Drive or maybe 50
