I was wondering if this computer would be good for my friend who is a console gamer. He knows enough about computers to navigate windows and download games. He said he wanted to be able to play Minecraft, cs:go, Terraria, Starbound, overwatch, and tf2. He also wants it to be the cheapest it can be. I will be building the system (I build my computer so I know what i'm doing). If you have suggestions please comment I will respond. Thanks. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/NwpQPs

My usual disclaimer here: I do not endorse case + PSU combos, as the PSU is usually crap. I only recommend it if you're on a very tight budget, aren't going to be putting a terribly demanding load on your PC and will upgrade to something like an S12II in the future. That said, I'm ok with the idea of doing it with a Rosewill case/PSU because I've used several Rosewill PSUs over the years and, for being a bargain basement brand, they've always held up well.

If your friend wants to overclock, grab the X4 880K instead and a Deepcool Gammaxx 400 cooler. Cheaper than the 212 EVO and outperforms it.

Blah blah SSD, extra RAM, upgrade as you see fit, but this is about the cheapest 1080p gaming PC I could put together...and it looks pretty nice, if I do say so myself.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Thanks man, my friend like I said is a console gamer so I tried really hard to keep the price down. I don't think he needs to overclock so i'm just going to keep the stock cooler. Also it might not have updated the link but I do have a psu in there the EVGA 430w.

The Athlon will bottleneck the 460, for the budget this guy wants it would be better to get a i3-6100

I would definitely recommend going the used route, right now there are a ton of good deals for really cheap. But, this works. I am also pretty disappointed that this wasn't just $0.67 more.

I would invest a little more so there  is no bottleneck and if he wants a stronger pc he can keep some parts and especially overwatch will run better on this.
To be precise 1920x1080 with everthing up besides effects on medium it will run on 63 fps minimum.

The whole point of this build is to try to stay below 550. He really doesn't want more than a computer to play the games above. He already has an xbox one but he wants to join the rest of our friends on pc. So I might get a less expensive rx 460 4gb, add a disk drive, and let him use my copy of windows 8.1.

when you give him a windows copy he then he is fine with this 500$ build?
The rx 460 shouldn't be switched to another rx 460, you could use a hhd instead of the ssd for saving some money and a cheaper case.

Seriously? I know it's not exactly the same thing as an 860K, but bottlenecking an entry-level GPU?

Change my suggestion to the 880K then. Adds all of, what, $20 to the budget?

It also limits a lot of other things like it only supports PCIe 2.0, it has 0 upgrade ability, and in all honestly I wouldn't want to buy one used because bang for the buck it isn't very good. If you buy it used maybe, but I wouldn't buy one new.

I still would though maybe not for a primary build. It's like a G3258 in many respects, only instead of being a dual core toy like the Pentium, is a quad core, viable gaming CPU. Might not be the best fit for the OP (certainly not at a $500 budget, oops), but if I needed a quick and dirty console killer, the 880K would be high on my list.
