My birthday is soon and I've been thinking that I'll need a nice laptop since after this senior year in hs I'll be going right into college. I'm hoping to be able to play games at better looking settings than my desktop which has a q6600+750ti in it and I was wondering how the 940mx stacks up against the 750ti and HD 520 (I know 520 is naturally gonna be the worse performer out of the 3) since I can't find any benchmarks on anything but the 750ti. Here are links to both of the laptops I'm looking at. I'd really like to have a touchscreen and the thinner body without the optical drive but I'm willing to sacrifice those for gaming performance. Also are there any other laptops that are ≥$600 that have dedicated graphics?

Both laptops are crap - horrible TN panel, poor plastic chassis and overall low build quality, mediocre keyboard, high noise and poor thermals. Not to mention Acer's legendarily shit customer support. I would strongly recommend NOT buying either of those.

As for your question - 940MX is about half the performance of a 750 TI but double that of the HD 520

You're not going to get anything good for that price.

The 750ti is the most powerful (by a decent margin) of the three, followed by the 940mx, then the HD520.

The Acer E is a great budget laptop for gaming. If you could save a little longer I would suggest

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-15-6-Inch-Quad-Core-i5-6300HQ-Processor/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1473720587&sr=8-2&keywords=dell+i7559

Now, the rule of thumb is to pick 2 of the 3 following options: Speed, Low Cost, Build quality. The laptops posted above are Speed/Low Cost. If you wanted something with Speed and Build, I would suggest the XPS 15 with 960m.

No, no and no. Stop spreading misinformation. This is not as simple as "pick 2 out of 3"

Acer E series are by no means good - stop lying to him.

Now you suggest a laptop that costs 4 times as much as he wants to spend? WHY?

Hey man, I didn't really come to the "laptops and prebuits" section to be told how shitty 2 pretty good (for the price) laptops are, but thanks for the help in the second part of the post

I would go with that if that price was an option (I know I didn't specify) but its a little too thick for me, dell laptops and their large optical drives. I don't expect to be playing too heavily on this laptop though, overwatch would probably be the most demanding thing I'd play on it

He was giving you valid advice on laptops that are not gonna last year the first 2 years. If you find that unacceptable then you should go ahead and purchase it.

Then what are you doing here? You asked about purchasing some laptops, and were told that they'd be wastes of cash.

You need to compromise. You can't look for thin, well-built, well-cooled, low-price. It doesn't really work like that. Also, good luck overwatching nicely on a 940MX. I sincerely doubt it's going to be an enjoyable experience.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

So you don't want us warning you about the bad products? Fine, then feel free to leave the forum if you don't need advice.
