A weird problem started happening after I upgraded my case. When I shut down my pc and turn it back on, none of the usb ports work (back and front panel). It will only work again if I unplug the power cable from my psu and plug it back in, not even the power switch on the back of the psu will make the usb ports work.

I messed around with the xhci modes in bios, and it seems like "smart auto, auto, enabled" all make the usb ports not work after a shutdown. Smart auto and enabled make them not work on post/bios or windows, while on auto they do still work on post but not in windows. Setting this to "disabled" gives me power to all my usb ports on both post and windows. But I think disabled mode makes it so I have no usb 3.0 ports at all?

I have no idea how a case change would have affected this in any way, what should I do here?

what motherboard are you using?

In my sig z97 sabertooth mark 2, bios is updated as are usb drivers. I don't think there is an xhci windows 10 driver actually, I think it now goes through windows, but either way it doesn't explain why it doesn't work on post either.

if your mobo is a ATX form factor, make sure you only have 6 mobo standoffs on your computer case. it should be 2 rows of three standoffs. most of the time if you put them towards the bottom of the mobo there are extra leads that run on the edges of the standoff holes and start to short out. that may be your issue here.

Thanks for the suggestion but this was not the issue, the problem still persists if I set xhci mode back to the default smart auto even without the standoffs. The usb ports only reliably work when xhci is disabled.

It could seriously be W10 support. One of my friends PC's won't connect to WPA encrypted networks because the W10 driver is garbage.

See if there is an older driver to install and give it a shot.
