So, I was just wondering what you guys do to protect your pc and if you use an antivirus and which one and how you set it up. Also if you use firewall monitors or other network security software. Mac and Linux users feel free to reply being this is not just a windows topic. This is intended to be a discussion so please don't be rude and be rude to people for how they protect their PC, Their choice.

I like Kaspersky Internet Security. I have tested it and only recently stopped using it. I had it set to max setting blocking basically everything. Malwarebytes I find is a bit slow to scan compared to some other antimalware in my experience. Do you have paid or free version or malwarebytes?

Free version. I only run it once and a while. The scan is much faster than KIS for me.

For me full scans with kaspersky takes about 5-10 mins max and malwarebytes take 10-15.

Do you have windows defender or anything like that enable or did you turn that off.

I just have defender, yeah, to me Antivirus is generally just an extra process that can eat away CPU usage. If I were to choose an antivirus though, all you really need is Avast's free antivirus, but thats just me. If you feel better with Norton or KIS, I don't blame you :P

For the paranoid though, best is to use a VPN + Adblock and ramp up all your security settings (and use common sense)

By default is enabled. But why would you waste time doing that. I don't see it pops up with creepy annoying sounds like some Antivirus does. There could be notifications but that's it.

Yeah but some people turn it of for performance reason which I never understood but people choose what they want to do.

Lol thats me, I recently stopped using Kaspersky because it was expensive and my ISP gives Bitdefender which is not that bad is is similar in protection to Kaspersky. I am paying for it so might as well use it. The reason is my device I use not only for personal but on the side I do disinfection and cybersecurity so to have setting maxed in needed when I go to those environments with my device. I never noticed a real performance impact when only running 1 program. If you run 2 or more it can hurt performance if its not a high power system based on my experience. And by 2 I mean like avast and a firewall application or avast and a sandboxing software.

I broke it. I do not know how I did that but I did and I'm proud. I edited it so you all can see my mistake. I'm so smart quoting myself by mistake.

Well I use a ubuntu variant called Zorin os 9 because I'm a noob to Linux.

I have used it before. I was not a fan of it personally but to each his own and you can easily find one you like being there are hundreds  if not thousands of distros. I do not like Ubuntu based due to for me personally at least to many devs for me. Debians devs then Ubuntu devs than whatever os devs. Just to many people to wait on and to many places for errors for me.
