Need help with printer search!

Gomo

Hello guys,

first off I'd like to apologize if I posted this in wrong forum section. Alright, so .. I'm looking for an all in one printer (printer/scanner/fax..). My budget is ~ 180$ and I'd like to get something decent. I was considering buying http://www.canon-europe.com/printers/inkjet/pixma/pixma_mx925/ but I read that they take too long to print & waste a lot of ink on cleaning. Next one was http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-Pro-8610/8620/8630-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5367611/model/5367613/drivers it seems nice and all, but the damn ink is insanely expensive.. Printer would be used in a small office and doesn't need to be fast (I'd like to stick to inkjet). If anyone has suggestions / good / bad experiences with specific printers, please share! Your help is appreciated!

Okay well first off, I must question:

Do you NEED colour printing? If so, why?

Next question:

Do you NEED inkjet? Why? Why did you said you'd like to stick with Inkjet.

Let me tell you, inkjet printers suck. Period. The only benefit for them is printing photo grade images on high quality photopaper. All other types of printing, for the most part, are better on a Laserjet, even regular colour documents.

So assuming you NEED colour, but don't need to print photos on high quality photopaper, I would honestly recommend saving up or putting more money towards your budget, and get a Color Laser All-in-one Printer. Your initial cost will be more (Potentially around $300 or so), but your cost of ownership will be LOWER. Your cost per page will be lower. The printer will be faster, stronger, better, will be more durable, and will just generally not suck as much.

I prefer HP Laser Printers, but Brother and Canon both make good ones too.

$329 USD (Or like $250 refurbished)

https://www.amazon.com/HP-LaserJet-M277dw-Wireless-Printer/dp/B00TVACKEE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1473437431&sr=8-2&keywords=hp+all+in+one+laser+color+printer

$324 USD

https://www.amazon.com/Canon-imageCLASS-MF8280Cw-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00BS6WYHC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473437493&sr=8-1&keywords=canon+all+in+one+laser+color+printer

$234 USD

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SL-C1860FW-XAA-Wireless-Replenishment/dp/B00IQBT3RG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473437526&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+all+in+one+laser+color+printer

$225 USD

Please note the different ways that some manufacturers make Laser Printers.

Canon, HP, and Samsung tend to combine the Drum and the Toner cartridges into a single unit. This is by far the easier solution, meaning when you replace the Toner, you always get a brand new fresh Drum. The upside is that you don't need to replace the Drum unit, which can often be pretty expensive. The downside is that Toner tends to be a bit more expensive compared to Brother.

Brother, on the other hand, usually has a separate Drum unit that is replaceable. The downside is of course, Drums are expensive. The upside is that Drums last a LONG TIME before needing replacement, and the Drum that comes with any Brother Printer is a full drum, not some starter pack (Seriously, even cheap Brother laser printers have Drums that are good for at least 10,000 pages of printing, and the more expensive printers might have drums good for double or triple that amount). This means your Toner is generally cheaper, but after however many thousand prints, you will need to replace the drum.

I have a Brother All-in-one at home (B&W only) and it works great. And we have like 20 HP Laser Printers (including both colour and all-in-one units) at work, which are very reliable.

Inkjet is just a money sink, long term.

I need color because of type of work we do, I can't print out documents in black and white. And about the inkjet, from my experience they had better quality than laser printers (not sure how it is these days ..). I'll look into the one you suggested and hopefully find the one that fits my needs. Thanks for taking the time & helping!

No problem. Can you describe the kinds of colour documents you would be printing? Because from experience, even full page colour posters, and stuff (Like advertising an upcoming event, or whatever), look fucking awesome on our Colour Laser Printers.

It's true that Inkjet CAN be higher quality for colour prints, but realistically, unless you're printing photos on high quality photopaper, you're not likely to see a difference.

And honestly, if you really need to print things that high quality, it would probably be cheaper to simply use a printing press/print finishing service anyway, since they'll have $100,000 colour inkjet printers, compared to your $180 one, and it'll probably still be cheaper to use them for that.

Generally, I like to make sure people only buy Inkjet if they ACTUALLY really need them - which in most cases: they don't.
