Hi im being a given a 6th gen intel motherboard in the next few days for free but i do not own a 6th gen cpu to test the board, i wanted to test if things like pci lanes are running a gpu as i know sometimes that can be a problem, but i want to know that if i give power to the motherboard will it for one actually run (i dont need it to boot) and will it run the gpu if power is supplied to it aswell. or is the only way to test it through installing a cpu?

Cheers

There are some "fake" CPUs that will allow to boot up the motherboard to make sure that it works.... A motherboard will work though so long as there are no bent pins.... Make sure that there are no bent pins in any of the slots and in the socket and you are golden...

If you want, you can buy a cheap Celeron for $40 and then sell it on eBay....
