Hello,

I'm looking for a cheap, compact, well built HTPC case that lays flat and can accommodate the following :

- Mini ITX motherboard,

- (ideally ATX but if not SFX) PSU

- 1 3.5'' HDD

- 1 or 2 2.5'' SSD

- Full size two slot GPU that isn't crazy big (ex : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7RD4TK4787&cm_re=gtx_1060-_-14-125-901-_-Product)

- CPU cooler that doesn't exceed GPU height (ex: low profile CPU cooler)

- No need for a 5.25'' bay

The more compact, the better as long as it's not a pain in the ass to build in. I can understand the need to go with a SFX PSU in order to save some space, I'd be interested in a compact case recommendation going in that direction. The case also needs to have decent airflow because of the fact that I'm considering a GPU and CPU cooler that exhaust in the case. Dust filters are a plus but I can make my own.

Thanks,

The two firsts are "cube" cases and the last is a regular upright mini ITX case. None of these are HTPC cases.

I see, so you want a "flat" mini ITX case. I searched around a bit with compatible cases and one of the few that suppot a 3.5" and 2 or more 2.5" bays is this one: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/J7mLrH/silverstone-case-ml05b
It only supports SFX PSUs only tho
EDIT: it supports 1 slot video cards only, so probably it won't be compatible with yours

Not bad looking. The only problems are the single slot expansion (this is clearly not made for "full" size GPUs) and the front I/O being on the side. This last one is a no-no for HTPCs as they most likely are put in drawer-style compartments that don't have a lot of gap on the sides.

Now we're talking!!

That Raven case is pretty sweet! GPU on a riser card, super slim, great quality and great reviews. I think I have a winner! Thanks a lot!

For my HTPC I use Cooler Master Elite 130. Really nice case with a lot of ventilation.

Yes, I've used it in the past and I liked it a lot. I was looking for something more slim for this build though.

  • 3 weeks later...

You have to go SFX but I have had an RVZ-01 for the past 2 years for my Steam Machine and it has worked great.  They have a less "exxtreeem" looking case too that came out after I already purchased this one.  They have also since released a V 2.0 (RVZ02) and an Extended (RVZ01-E) version with full PSU Compatibility, but you lose the 3.5" drive spot.
