Sennheiser HD600/650

Hi. I have the HD558 and I really like them. I have them connected to my motherboard and they get loud only if I max out all sound sliders in Windows and Foobar2000.

And by loud I mean... I can listen to them at this sound level for about 30min before I get headache. At 80% in Windows and max out slider in Foobar2000 they are ideal to listen to.

 

I was wondering if I should upgrade to HD600/650? They start at around €280/€315 here. I had chance to listen to both of them but only for a minute and it was in shop center with a lot of noise which kinda ruined the experience as those are open headphones. But from what I heard I really liked it. I just can't tell if they are that much better. I usually listen to epic music, rock and metal so I think that these styles are what the HD600/650 are good for. However I am not sure if I will need AMP for those as that would be extra cost and I don't know if I can justify it.

HD600/650 are quite a step up from hd558 in terms of clarity and resolution, though personally I'd prefer the th-x00 for the genres you listed. Don't worry about amping it, onboard should be good enough for now and could just get a magni later if you want.

Thanks, I will let it go trough my head and then decide if I really want them that much.

Can't find TH-X00 anywhere else except on massdrop and on eBay they are $550. And I don't intend to buy from massdrop as shipping cost is quite high not to mention that the price is without VAT.
